Bang! From one day to another it is summer. Just like that. No notice, so we're still stuck with our winter wardrobe.

But I did find some time to cool our thirst with the first homemade lemonade this year, made from pink grapefruits and ginger. Refreshing, colorful and darn tasty. 'Gotta have priorities!

Squeeze the grapefruits. Peel the ginger and slice it thinly.
Pour the grapefruit juice into a small saucepan, add the sugar and water as well as the sliced ginger. Bring to a boil and let simmer until sugar has completely dissolved, remove from heat and let stand for 10 to 15 minutes. Pour through a fine mesh sieve and refrigerate the strained syrup until thoroughly chilled.
To cut the sweetness, dilute with water and ice cubes to taste.
Pink lemonade with ginger
Recipe Source: own creation
Prep/cooking time: about 20 min. plus chilling
.
Ingredients (yields about 600 ml):
250 ml pink grapefruit juice (2-3 fruits)
250 g white sugar
250 ml water
fresh ginger to taste (I used 2-3 cm)
It sounds great! 30 ° C in Germany - there is nothing better than a cool drink with ginger!!!
Oh! I love your idea of making lemonade out of grapefruit. It would have been perfect to drink it yesterday evening under some tree aside the Isar...
I've never made homemade lemonade before. Oh my goodness! Can I have it even if the weather is really bad around here?
Give me grapefruits! Your lemonade sounds great, perfect for these temperatures.
Mmmm!
...and tell me, what's the plugin you used to have the post image at the right here ? I'm very interested in it! ;)
ohhh sounds yummy! i never would have thought to put ginger in it!
I like ginger with mint in my homemade lemonades, but ginger and grapefruit also sound like a great combo. And as always, great pictures!
I've been thinking to make my own lemonade for a while now. Thanks for throwing this recipe out there!
This looks like a great twist to the ordinary lemonade! Thanks!
I agree that it's hot here; thanks for a recipe to cool me off down here in Rosenheim!
Love your blog!
YUM! Bring it on!!
SO Beautiful! Looks refreshing, light, bright - just lovely.
I just made this and it's absolutely wonderful! Unfortunately the shop had no root ginger, so I had to omit that.
I diluted it with ginger ale though to get an idea of what it would be like had I been able to make it properly, and that was good. I've also made some of it into ice lollies for hotter days to come.
The color is so pretty! Will have to look out for some grapefruits.
Aaahhh, your june-Cover is so cool! What is it?
This sounds wonderful and is good for you too. Even though it has sugar in i, it is better than processed lemonades!
I wonder how this would taste lightly frozen like a slushy and doused lovingly with vodka...... with a mint sprig
Gorgeous color and photography. My mother used to make homemade lemonade with lemons and raspberries, but I haven't had it for ages :(
I don't know about a slushy Kirsten, but as an ice lolly it tastes amazing, and the texture is such that I think it'd make an excellent slushy.
one of my favorite fresh juices is similar to this! except there was the addition of apple juice. perhaps this could replace the sugar/water or try agave nectar or honey
Sounds delicious!
This is a great sounding recipe. Can't wait to try it this weekend. Having a little yard sale. Perhaps I can sell it to customers, too.
this is one great site thanks!
mmm...tempting..love it !!!
this is gorgeous....so is your site and so are you! I love your site and hope that someday mine will be half as impressive!

Homemade lemonade is my favorite thirst-quencher during summertime, I like it best plain with lemons or berries. I never used pink grapefruits, have to try it soon!
