The veils can finally be lifted: Our short trip to Copenhagen recently was all in light of – no real surprise here though – NOMA. Following an assignment by NOWNESS to interview RenĂ© Redzepi is something you simply can’t turn down – even when void of an actual dining experience. We connected very well and the overall time we got to spend with RenĂ© on his houseboat surpassed our expectation by far.

Oh well. Can anybody tell me where June, July and August went? And September, too? As much as I like working on cookbooks, it is a process that tends to suck you in completely, with flesh and bones. Someday I don’t even realize what day we have, on others I forget about having breakfast until it’s time to start thinking about dinner. Crazy times.

Last Saturday wasn’t exactly my day. I’ve been canning and preserving for many, many years, and consider myself familiar with the whole process – you give me fruit and I can turn it into some delicious jam without having to look up instructions or recipes. And yet, my self-confidence didn’t prevent me from turning my kitchen into a sublime mess.

When I crossed the door step of Bar Centrale on a sunny Thursday a few weeks ago to meet our friends Sherry and Bob from Sausalito, it had been almost 4 years that we had first met – at the very same coffee bar. They have become dear friends of ours and we make sure to meet at least once a year, may it be in California, in France or in our Bavarian capital.
