Our big fat Greek yogurt (part I & II)
April 1st, 2005

Yogurts come in all types, shapes and tastes. The one we like the best is the one we get right across the street at the Greek grocery store. Is it rich? It sure is. Do I care? Nope. It is so good, you could even eat it without anything. Sometimes we mix in seasonal fruits, other times we just top it with some self-made marmalade. Yesterday morning, however, we recalled a nice variation we had a pretty long while ago at a coffee place with the ambiguous name “Schmock” up in Schwabing (a district of Munich). So we scraped together a good handful of various nuts (almonds, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, sesame, pistachios, pine, pecans or walnuts) and roasted them. Made layers of yogurt and honey and added the nuts -still warm- on top. Sweet stuff. O.

Happy Easter!!
March 28th, 2005

Easter family get-togethers are great. For one, it’s always good to see your family, but also Easter bunnies bring a lot of chocolate. We’ll skip the dressing up part this time, however, we decided to make a box of chocolates. Chocolate marzipan truffles or our version of Mozartkugeln to be exact. I’ve read the expression Mozart-Balls in other places, but found it to give a wrong impression. The process of making them is rather unspectacular, but takes some time.

Kaiserschmarrn
March 27th, 2005

This is not for the faint of heart. I have not counted the calories in this recipe, nor do I really want to know. Although, comparing it to some other cakes and desserts we make, it really doesn’t look too bad at all. Realistically, having it once a week probably doesn’t hurt by any means…along these lines, I try to rationalize the urge I sometimes get to make a large portion of Kaiserschmarrn.

Rue des Halles
March 26th, 2005

Just recently, we heard that – after more than a decade of offering wonderful French cuisine – our favorite restaurant in our neighborhood will now be closed. Why is it killing us? Almost 6 years back, N. and I had our first date there, we definitely started off right :) In the past years we celebrated our anniversaries at Rue des Halles (Munich, Haidhausen, Steinstr.18), which never let us down or disappointed us in the slightest. On the contrary, it kept coming up with surprises, such as the perfectly timed and planned delightful seven course dinner on New Years Eve.
