July 4th
2008
Yes I'm still alive, thank you for asking. The reason for the sudden quietness around here were my fantastic skills to juggle coordinate the last deadlines for my book with a rather spontaneously arranged trip to Paris. Paris was excellent, my aforementioned skills quite the opposite. In fact I am happy to state, that Christina (the angel from the editorial office) did not despair and throw her computer with my book on harddisk out of the window... Luckily, the hotel had free Wi-Fi, so at least a little got done, before exploring the city with Paris insiders, friends and foodbloggers Katia and David, who didn't get tired of spending time with us and sharing their favorite places. Now I definitely know that I could live pretty happily for the rest of my life just eating Saya or Soleil by Sadaharu Aoki - with the occasional Falafel inbetween.

But I was even more happy, when I left my editor's office yesterday. The final layout check is done, now I (and three more pairs of eyes) will spend the weekend re-re-re-reading the German book before we'll do the same with the English version probably over the next weekend. The publishing date (September) is approaching faster as ever ...

Don't you think this is the perfect atmosphere for layouting a nice little cookbook? (it's Christina's office, not mine)

Shhh, You shouldn't see this, but hey a sneak peak hasn't hurt anyone?

Don't you just have to love a graphic designer who uses the food names for the colors in your book?

great news...very happy for you...
Congratulations on completing the final layout! We are very excited, but we don't think we can wait until the English version is completed--so we are rapidly trying to learn German. So far, we can say "Nudeln" and "Schnittlauch" but not much else. We don't know what either word means but, thanks to our past exposure to Nicky and Oliver, they sound delicious.
Today is Independence Day here in the US, when most of us Americans traditionally celebrate our liberation from bad 18th century British eating habits by defiantly cooking hotdogs outside in warm summer weather. By all accounts, it is the perfect day to make the lemonade with grapefruit and ginger recipe suggested here on DD.
Unfortunately, for all of us here in San Francisco/Sausalito, the traditional weather on July 4th is more conducive to a steaming cup of hot chocolate and a log burning in the livingroom fireplace (it is currently 14 C at 9am here.) So, we will likely be consulting the DD archives for some festive winter recipes to help get us through the day. Regardless of the weather, DD always delivers a little bit of "sunsine and happiness" to our day.
Mmmm, gotta go...I think I smell some apple pie cooking in the kitchen...
Oh Nicky, I can't wait to see it! I can just tell it's going to be a gorgeous book.
Looking good! Thanks for the sneak peak, and best wishes, of course.

As a new fan of your blog-the idea of having and giving your cookbook is so exciting.

Wow, Paris...our fourth favorite city after Munich, New York, and San Francisco! (Well, maybe just for me...) Actually, we are quite thrilled to get some new tips on Paris (you really never know as much as you think you do when it comes to that city.)
Anyway, we are anxiously awaiting the book's publication! Thanks for another great DD edition.

Das sieht ja vielversprechend aus - danke fürs Sneaken-dürfen! :-)
Weiter gute Augen und Nerven, viel Geduld und Spaß und liebe Grüße!
