Ok, we blew it, let our blog down. We had plans for our fifth blog birthday in March, big plans. We had talked about a major redesign, threw initial ideas and concepts in the air, hoping to see them fall on fertile ground, but somehow there was always something more important to do. A photography job, some design projects, and of course the new book. Yet, – bad conscience omnipresent – each time I visited our little foodblog, I could feel an increasing urge to revamp it from the ground up, to give it an opposite and distinct new look.
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved the layout we had established, but just like in real life, it was time for remodeling, moving on. Whenever time permitted, I would spent a couple of hours with Photoshop, shoved pixels back and forth or tried various color combinations, to no avail. The results lacked that certain something I’ve been looking for. More work came along and somehow our blog redesign project fell under the radar.
Inspirational sparks can come from anywhere and despite all previous failed approaches pretty much out of the blue a design idea stroke and within two weeks most work was done, both front-end and back-end wise. Now began the period I dreaded the most, re-evaluating our fresh look each and every morning anew. Eyes barely open, squinting, are we still on track, have we gone overboard already? Our gut feeling happily played devil’s advocate (it can be a real pain in the *ss let me tell you), questioning our design decisions over and over again. But we stayed on course.
The new design grew on us by the day, it started to feel like home and we could hardly wait to move in. Second thoughts or doubts long over board, we are happy to have found a wonderful and apt new home for our blog, solidly built for the next years to come.
We hope, you guys like it as much as we do! After all, we love to have friends over! Look around, the main functionality hasn’t changed much, but may live in slightly different places now, including a functional footer featuring additional information and inspirations. Watch out, paint is still fresh though!
Come on in :)
