_Just upgraded to 8.4 using the automatic update in wordpress. It completely removed my stylesheet. Also it can't find the captcha image anymore.

The 'automatic update' is not a feature of cforms, you should raise this issue with the developers of wordpress.org

I've never been a friend of this core WP feature - your experience is part of why...

PS: not sure if setting the your custom files to 'not writable' solves the issue, but it is worth a try.
