Hi Oliver,

I'm writing in, only after really tying without any success to resolve this issue.

Initially I was happy when I read the release notes for ver 7.4 in which it mentions that the line break bugs have been taken care of in Multiline text box

bugfix: line breaks in multi-line text fields are now displayed correctly in the (HTML) admin email

but unfortubnately im still facing this problem.

Im using the forms to allow people to type in a "listing" that has a multiline text box for the "details" of the listing.

Many times people simply copy and paste from their other sources such as a web page or an email.

But when it comes as an admin email ( which in turn i use with the post by email function of WP) to create a WP post, the entire formatting of the multiline text box is lost and it shows it as just one big block of text.

even simple line breaks are not shown. It would be nice to also have other htnl style like bols and underline showing.

I have enabled html mail for admin, ( include preformatted is turned off for both text and html mails)

The reason i cant just use include preformatted details is becuase as mentioned, the entire mail that goes to admin is then reposted back to WP as a post using WP's post by email feature.

I know for sure that the line breaks  and other html codes are not being stripped by the WP post by email parsing, becuase I tested by sending the Cforms admin email to another email address and saw the same block of text style output.

(when i included preformatted details, the line breaks show up properly, but thats not the solution I can use, as the entire form output gets attached including the label names)

To summarize, is it possible to

1) find a solution to show proper line breaks even when text is copy pasted from other sources into the multiline textbox

2) have other html basic styling like bold, underline etc retained in the multline textbox for text that has been copied from other sources such as a webpage or wordpad document

3) this may not be possible but – use a basic WP like text styling inteface for typing with buittons for basic formatting like underline, bold, and text centering  (like the default WP write post panel)

4) Have the ability to post direct from form to WP post without me having to now resort to posting to email address and then fetching by WP to be posted on the blog.

Thanks in advance. for this lovely application

Regards

Clyde

Hello Clyde,

1) find a solution to show proper line breaks even when text is copy pasted from other sources into the multiline textbox

That's always difficult as I can't guess on what the format is that is being copied. However, if the copied text includes CR line breaks (not < BR/ >) it should format nicely. I just tried various scenarious.

If you can't get it to work, let me know and I'm sure we can figure a solution.

2) have other html basic styling like bold, underline etc retained in the multline textbox for text that has been copied from other sources such as a webpage or wordpad document

Makes sense, let me look into that. If easy to do, perhaps I'll sneak it in v7.4 through the backdoor… EDIT: I just tried supplying HTML formatted input to a textarea field and it does get rendered as HTML in the email. Are you sure it's not the other plugin or your mail server that strips out HTML?

3) this may not be possible but – use a basic WP like text styling inteface for typing with buittons for basic formatting like underline, bold, and text centering  (like the default WP write post panel)

I wouldn't offer it as part of cforms but you can use visual editors such as TinyMCE already with cforms. I've seen it implemented by other users.

4) Have the ability to post direct from form to WP post without me having to now resort to posting to email address and then fetching by WP to be posted on the blog.

I've chosen to do it this way, as a best of breed approach. Have cforms do best what it does best etc. Not to say that it won't ever make it into cforms…

Hi Oliver,

 Thanks for the quick reply.

No It really is not working for me :( I seriously tried all day. to get line breaks to work proper. And yes your righht, from some places when i copy text it works from some it does not.

No the other plugin (postie) is not stripping out html, I have enabled teh option to allow html and even if it was, I re confirmed that it had nothing to do with the output of cforms because i tried by changing the admin email address to another email that comes straight to my mail box.

In fact even if i type into the multliline text box manually, if i enter to "return" keys then i get a proper next line in the output. If i simply hit the enter key a single time it does not convert to a line break in the output, it simply creates a "space" between two words.

Also, I cant get any other html like bold etc to be retained, if i have copied text from any webpage

Can you give me a rough clue how to integrate tinymce to be a text editor for the multline text box? even a small editor like the one in this very forum that we are using would be great, that way people can at least format text properly for the multiline text box.

Thanks and regards

clyde
