Locking the DB for user writes

Please replace the ??? with your data!

Greetings,

As a former programmer (haven't really touched code in oh… 5 years?? and before that was just in undergrad), I need help with a DBMS on a class website we have hosted on WordPress.

Basically, we wanted to limit the number of people that sign up for a particular review session to seven.  However, looking at the most recent list of sign-ups, I found that some of the groups actually had EIGHT people, and that the last two people in these two "oversized" groups had signed up at the same minute.

My question is how can we put extra code in place to prevent this from happeneing?  I.E. is there a way to lock the DBMS when one user wants to write to the DB or allowing both users to (tentatively) write to a copy of the DB, then resolving the DB by time, and then kicking the last user(s) to sign up?

Thank you in advance!

Chris

I see you followed my suggestion from the other post and split up the form in several, one per session.

There is nothing I can do to prevent an occasion where the DB (an/or Cache!) is not delivering the exact number of recorded user submissions back to cforms and cforms falsely allowing the user to sign up.

Of course you can go into the Tracking section of cforms and delete entries and inform users that they've been kicked out – essentially having signed up too late.

Currently I think there might be an issue that I haven't considered and that is: a user opening the form and submitting 6 hours later, I think that might work even though in the interim all seats have been taken up.

I'll check into that last one…

Greetings Oliver,

Thank you for your reply!  Yeah, that was the other theory that I had… that people can open the forms within the same minute and not submit til later even though the submissions will overload a group.  We did end up e-mailing people about the "glitch."

Thank you for working on a solution for this issue!
