Installation Error

Didn't see this issue anywhere but hopefully someone can shed some light.

So when I install cforms and activate the plug-in, my browser goes pitch white.  My whole wordpress admin and site goes down and all I get are white screens.  When I FTP in and delete the plug-in, my site reappears.

Not sure what's causing this, but I did notice that when I try to extract the zipped download, there are 6 files in the extracted folder that won't extract due to the fact they are named the same as 5 folders in the zipped file.  They all have 0 kb so I'm not sure if they are plugin criticial files or if this has anything to do with the plugin not working.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A few questions Jason:

  1. Where did you download the zip from?
  2. What version of cforms?
  3. What are the file names?
  4. Have you tried downloading again, to see if the files are still 0KB?

It seems like white is the new blue ;-) sorry couldn't resist

1. http://www.deliciousdays.com/download/cforms.zip

2. I'm guessing the most recent version as I downloaded directly from this site.

3. File names are: captchabg, captchfonts, images, js, styling.  These seem to be empty files with no file type associated.  There are also the same folder names included in the download.

4. I did, same file structure appears.

When I try to extract the zipped file, near the end, it forces me to try and rename the above file names because it says the filename is already being used by a folder in the zipped file.

Odd. I just tried again and it all works fine, both directly from the plugin page as well as from the WP plugins site.

Still, you may want to try downloading it from there: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cforms/

Out of curiousity, can you mail me the zip you downloaded? Thanks.

Well, the download worked this time (the file structure was different), but I still get the white screen after installing and activating.

I'm no expert, but my best guess is that perhaps it's a conflict with another plug in?  Here are the other plugins I have installed and activated:

It should work with all of them.  Getting just a white screen looks very odd, no PHP/MySQL/Javascript or any other error?

What happens when you turn the others off one by one?

No error messages at all.  Just a blank white screen appears, and when I try to access any other pages in the admin or blog, white screens come up.

I tried deactivating a few plugins and no change.  I also tried to install on another blog with the same results.

Could it have anything to do with the host I use? (aplus.net).

I've never had an issue with other plugins.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem. Sometimes I can get it to install, but whenever I make a change, "update settings" I get the white screen. Other times I get exactly as described, white screen on activate, all other pages do the same until i delete the plugin. I've tried 4.2 and 4.5. I'm on LAMP, PHP 5. Wordpress 2.2.

In the database, I noticed that while cforms does create settings in the options table, it doesn't create any other tables (which I expected it would)

Other plugins:

breadcrums
wp-contact

I'd really like to use this plugin, any help is appreciated!

With your configuration, it should work just fine. (Tracking) tables are only created if you choose to use (and enable) DB Tracking on the General Settings page.

Not sure where the white screens stems from, since I can't replicate. If you do find out what the issue is, I'm more than curious to know :)

One thought: could it be that you've uploaded corrupted cforms files? Can you check paths and permissions?

Hi,

I've tried the files from here and the codex. Also tried 4.2 distro from the codex. I even set my whole httpdocs dir to 777 to see if it was was a permissions problem.

Still getting the white screen.

Not sure if I can see anything that helps to narrow down the issue, but -provided the activation works fine- can you post the URL to the form?

Also, are you using any form of WP caching? If so, try to disable and see if that's it.

I'm having the same issue.  I am running WP2.1.3 -- getting ready to update to WP2.2, and running cforms4.5 on a Unix box.

I've had cforms successfully installed on this blog in the past, but now I am getting a white screen -- in the admin side and on the frontend of the site -- when the plugin is activated.  If I change the name or delete cforms from the plugins directory, all is well.

I downloaded the zip file from WP.org/extend, and re-downloaded it twice now, using the link you provided above.  Each time I get the same thing.

I just did another test on a fresh DB, with WP 2.2 and cforms – works like it should. Since I can't replicate and don't have access to either of your systems it's impossible to remotely troubleshoot.

Let me when know if you find out more.

Btw what's the URL?

I have a similar issue. When I activate the plugin (recent version) in WP 2.2 I get the following PHP error message:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare getip() (previously declared in
/homepages/19/d28888804/htdocs/WEBSITES/FREYE_BOGNER/wp-content/plugins/contactforms/cforms.php:392)
in /homepages/19/d28888804/htdocs/WEBSITES/FREYE_BOGNER/wp-content/plugins/wp-contact-form/wp-contactform.php on line 170

Any ideas?

That's a different issue and covered in the FAQ's.

wp-contactform.php on line 170

By the way, cforms checks for getip(), but other plugins apparently do not, you should contact the other plugin authors instead Laughing

Hi,

fast as usual, Oliver thanx for that. But today I seem to be stupid enough not to find the funny little FAQ. Could you please show some mercy and tell me where I can find the solution?

Appreciate!

Best

M.

Hello:

I just upgraded to WP 2.2 which was released last week. I uploaded the latest version of cforms to the plugins directory. It shows up in the plugins list, but when trying to activate cforms, wp tells me it caused a fatal error and can't let coforms be activiated.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Steve Eisenberg

It's very diffiicult to remotely troubleshoot, especially if there arent't any error messages or such.

I have installed it on may WP2.2 deployments and it generally works fine. But you may have certain settings/plugins that possibly could interfere.

To find the culprit, try turning off the other plugins and see if the problem persists and then turn them back on one by one.

E.g. "wp-contactform" (a different contact form plugin) appears to be causing problems due to not checking for getip(), see issue above.
