I'm trying to enable the phpMailer to send through the Gmail SMTP server. The data i have insert is the following:

smtp.gmail.com

SSL

465

username@gmail.com (obviously my username) 

password

 

When i try to send a form i get always the same error:

 
Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to smtp.gmail.com:465 in /home/euroforu/public_html/wp-content/plugins/contactforms/phpmailer/class.smtp.php on line 122

 

Any ideas?

Are you using this account with another email client? I guess what I'm asking is, have you verified that your gmail account actually supports/is enabled to accept SMTP connections?

SSL & 465 are the proper defaults.

Hi Oliver,

I've configure my Outlook to send & receive e-mails for this gmail account and everything seems to be ok.

The error is still the same:

Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to smtp.gmail.com:465 in /home/euroforu/public_html/wp-content/plugins/contactforms/phpmailer/class.smtp.php on line 122

SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

I am getting the same error and not able to use the amazing plugin.

I have also tried without SMTP but after submit it hangs on the watchglass.

Can you try again without SMTP and post the URL one can take a look?
