I've upgraded successfuly to cformsII v9.0b, but yesterday I had to move my blog to new hosting (hopefuly better). Everything is ok with the transfer but I can't activate the cforms anymore.

I get this:

Fatal error: Cannot use string offset as an array in /path/to/cforms/lib_aux.php on line 12

I hope there is a solution. Thanks in advance and keep the good work!

greets, Cas

I'm having an identical problem with 9.0b. When trying to activate the plugin I see: "Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error. Fatal error: Cannot use string offset as an array in /this/sites/filepath/wp-content/plugins/cforms/lib_aux.php on line 12"

I deleted the plugin and downloaded a fresh copy from your website, manually created the abspath.php file (because it could not create its own), and continue to see this error message.

Very odd, this is the first time I'm hearing about this and two cases in a row...weird.

What are your PHP versions?

I also sent you a file to be copied into your cforms folder, let me know if this fixed it..

That's eliminated the error messages and the plugin appears to behave properly now. Unfortunately it's not sending mail. I will check my server configuration and follow up.

Thanks for the file. Ill test it as soon as possible. Still waiting DNS records update and can't reach my blog from my place. Will give it a try like 8-9 hrs later from now, at work.

p.s. Forgot to mention that Ive created abspath.php on my own, just like Art Delano said he did.

p.p.s. PHP 5.2.6

p.p.p.s. As far as Ive managed to test with the new file - same error, cant activate.

Ok, Ive tested this with one of my blogs and it works. Ive just deleted the cforms_settings entry from wp_options table via phpmyadmin and a fresh cforms install. Everything is working just fine - no fatal error, abspath auto created etc. Wiping the options does the trick. :> But if you have more than one created form...

So at it looks like the problem comes from damaged option values or something. Got damaged after upgrade 8.7->9.0b? Any chance to restore default options, generated on first activation and keeping the created forms at the same time?

You can create backups of both the individual forms and all settings, but note that only v8x backups work with v8x installs and v9x backups with v9 installs.

What's odd is, that I've never seen a 'corrupt' options entry that would prevent from properly installing.

Hi Guys,

I had the exact same error that Caspar mentioned and was able to resolve it. Actually, I encountered a couple other errors too and finally found my answer here.

I think part of the problem was that I developed this particular site on my local workstation and moved it up to the live web server when it was complete.

There are several entries in the wp_options table for cforms and I just deleted the cforms_settings entry and reinstalled.

Thanks!

Eric

I've just moved everything from my development machive to the live server (including files, plugins, database, cforms settings, etc), and I got this error when I tried reactivating the pugin from within the control panel.

I did install WP instead of copying it verbatim, however. Could that be causing the problem?

I manually created/uploaded abspath.php as well as check for any cforms_settings entries inside the wp_options table, but I didn't find any.

BTW, I am using WP 2.6.2, cforms 9.1, and PHP 5.2.6 on both servers.

I would really appreciate any input, as this is a client website that needs to be up and running ASAP!

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I'm having the same problem here but I can't see the entry Eric referred to. I get this error:

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

"Fatal error: Cannot use string offset as an array in /home/.zuri/ejal/domainname/wp-content/plugins/cforms/lib_aux.php on line 12"

I'm developing on a MAMP installation with the following set up:

- PHP 5.1.6

- MySQL 5.0.19

- Wordpress 2.6.2

I was on version 8 beforehand - any ideas on what I can do?

chances are that when you try to copy SQL data (database) that cforms looses its settings due to not recognizing the settings array - for whatever reason. In such a case I recommend:

  1. make a backup of all cforms settings (global-settings->backup)
  2. move dev env to live server
  3. install cforms from scratch and restore previous backup
  4. very important: deactivate cforms and reactivate cforms again!

very likely.

can you try and remove the cforms settings manually from your wp_options table and start afresh. ie. deactivate cforms (if not already) and re-activate.

Hello and first of all I want to say thanks for such a nice plug-in. Unfortunately i have similar error :(

Fatal error: Cannot use string offset as an array in /lib_aux.php on line 12

It is a fresh install from wp plug-ins dir, it is latest wp and  much everything is latest. Unix server if that's matters. Ok i'll try to repeat steps,

1.) created new form

2.) added fields and etc

3.) turn on global thank you

4.) went to global settings, changed Q/A and etc text to my lang

and that is pretty much it, everything crashed, every link within wp-admin pops that error, site pops that error so plug-in crashed whole wp system. In the end i backed cforms dir and deleted it from plug-ins directory to get site back online. I've used cforms plug-in before on previous site and I was pretty satisfied and now on new site with everything latest, something crashed. Don't get me wrong I still think it is really fine plug-in just I would really like to get a bottom of that error.

Ok a small add-on!

Now i tried to re-install plug in and it tells me that plug-in can't be installed cause it is poping that error. I just to be sure downloaded again from plug-in dir

very odd that configuration caused the system to crash and *no offense* hard to believe.

Even if you'd remove the cforms wp_options setting during run-time (something not recommended of course) all it would do at the most is to not show the menu items, until properly reactivated.

I'm happy to stand corrected, but I'd need to see a reproducible set of steps.

PS: make sure you're on the latest cforms release! it appears that you're not.

PS2: try removing the cforms_settings entry from wp_options manually

As i said i downloaded cforms that caused error yesterday from word press plug-ins dir and yeah just a simple settings crashed whole wp unfortunutly :(. WP version is 2.6.3,Apache version 2.2.9 (Unix), PHP version 5.2.6, MySQL version 5.0.67-community. It is a few days old wp install, installed with auto install over cpanel, there is no content on site yet since site is in development process (custom theme) and site is nationalized css gallery and i was makeing submit form. 5 single-text fields, 1 checkbox, 1 textarea and 2 fieldsets and as it appears problem started after enableing "thank you" on all posts (past and present) and i didnt remove cforms option settings durring run time, everything was just in cforms settings. I'll try to reproduce everything now.

pardon my english, it is not my main lang

Small add:

Ok i reinstalled and did most of the steps that i can remember and so far everything works fine, thank you for fast response and if error ocurs again or something i'll notify you. Cheers

But you didn't say which version, as there are currently 4 versions, anyway, can you post line 12 of lib_aux.php - just want to make sure you got the right code.

and as it appears problem started after enableing "thank you" on all posts (past and present)

not sure what you mean by that? how did you enable what & where?

Well it was 9.1 version, latest one, here is that line of code:

if ( $cformsSettings['global']['cforms_smtp']<>'' )

and i checked, version that caused error and new that i downloaded for re-install, it is the same.

and it is a Tell-A-Friend Form Support on main cformsII settings, first i checked enable tell a friend and then i pressed enable for all, past and present posts and then i checked enable for future postings. After that I went to styling tabs and you know the rest... I didnt mess with any of smtp settings, everything default. I just want to add that i am not a noob so I didnt mess anything, maybe some of translations caused error since i used special characters of Croatian language but that shouldn't be a problem i think... Also i didn't make cforms as a default wp form, maybe that was the problem too... dunno and i would really like to help in solvng that err but i just can't remember all the steps but i do remember that i didn't went away from cforms settings... Cheers and once again I have to say that it is a great plug-in that I'll still use just it was strange thing and i thought that it should be posted in here.
