This is a ridiculous quesion, but for the life of me I can't replace "valid email required" with just "required" (want to do this for space issues — form is in the sidebar).  I've changed lib_options_add.php, and lib_activate.php.  I have no formpreset selected, but tried replacing the text in all of these files as well.

I've tried activating and de-activating the CForms, deselecting 'required' on the form and reselecting and saving it.

Any suggestions?  Is there another way to do this with Fieldsets?

it's a configurable field in the main form admin page
