This is Oliver writing. Again. What? Merely 5 months later, after my last post on Dubai, I regained temporary control over d:d and thought I’d take the opportunity to share a few impressions from our last photo shoot at our favorite restaurant in Munich – and while I’m at it, thank you Uli for introducing us to Tramin, roughly 2 years ago.

The general idea of serving high end food in a laid back atmosphere can hardly be new, but it is obvious that Holger Baier (Manager & Sommelier) and Daniel Schimkowitsch (Chef de Cuisine) execute on it much better than any place we’ve been to before.

Tramin, their restaurant, opened doors roughly two years ago, shy of a few days and if it wasn’t for Uli, we wouldn’t have been there from the first hour. The direction Daniel takes with his food creations (both technically & taste-wise) is inspired by international trends yet with a clear tendency to local ingredients and dishes, smart & light. That may sound pretty generic, but if you’d ask him for how he would characterize his kitchen, he’d say: positively nuts.

And that’s exactly what it is. Compared to other (star’ed) restaurants, they shine where others look pale. Atmosphere-wise they rock. Literally. Excellent choice of music (great job Stefan!) paired with excellent (but affordable) wines and wonderful dishes. The menu sort of changes on a monthly basis, “sort of” because there is no real menu per se. What you get is a food 3.0 tag cloud of ingredients, simply let the waiter know any likes or dislikes (+1 doesn’t work here) and how many courses you think you can manage & let them enchant you.

Over the past 2 years they’ve been going strong, the sky is the limit & speaking of which, they’re a given star * candidate for next year.
Ever since, we’ve become regulars and it’s THE restaurant that we think of first when friends come to visit.
See you in September.
