This was one of the many lines delivered by occasionally funny Singaporean taxi drivers, that made us laugh and ponder about what exactly the message was supposed to mean. Because – truth be told – our latest trip to Singapore was everything we hoped it would be. And then some. (…including an ugly cold I caught as soon as we returned from the hot humid temperatures to embrace the nasty weather situation here…)
Can our trip be summed up in few words? Let’s try: We ate, we ate and then we ate some more. We fell in love with this cosy place, the tropical climate, the diversity of cuisines, cooking styles and the buzzing food markets. Thanks to our friend Kai and well-informed fellow foodbloggers we knew exactly what was not to be missed. And then there was the most amazing Thai dinner we shared with Aun, Su-Lyn, Lynn, Willin and Beppe – I’d go back in a heartbeat! But for now I will just cure my cold and leave you with some impressions of a wonderful city :)

I wrote the bulk of the descriptions for Singapore on the website Planetware.com sight unseen. Thanks for letting me take a peek.
I love the fish pictures.
Ah I'm glad you've enjoyed my country as much as I've enjoyed your blog :)
I have always heard that Singapore is The Place to Go for food--sounds wonderful!
I sure hope you are feeling much better!!!! What were some of the delights you had eaten?
Just curious, but did you take that picture yourself in Singapore? The inscription looks like it's in Tamil, a language used in South India, and I wouldn't have expected to see it in Singapore.
My parents are Tamilian, and I've learned to sort of read and write the language, so I was a bit surprised I could read it.
EDIT Nicky: Yes, all the pictures were taken by ourselves in Singapore... After all there is "Little India", a part of the city with cultural elements from India and Tamil language has an official status in Singapore, too.
You've got some beautiful photos! I love the lizard. The fruit and veggies look great too. The dragon fruit look so ripe and yellow compared to the greenish ones I've seen for sale.
i read your blog regularly and i'm thrilled that you had a great time in s'pore. lovely pictures, thanks for sharing! - s'porean living in new york
Singapore is a foodie's heaven; one that won't break the bank either. My parents just came home from Austria and I excitedly unwrapped a copy of Delicious Days they brought for me (On my request! None of the bookstores here in Canada carried it). But alas, unfortunately they got me the German version. I almost cried a little because I can't read a single word! The photos and layout are beautiful though :)
EDIT Nicky: Oh that is too bad ;( But my book (the English version) is available via Amazon.com, maybe this is an option for you?
what beautiful photos!
Wow, awesome photos! Great food also.
so cool! Glad you enjoyed your trip and thanks for the photos!
bei diesen fotos kriege ich ganz, ganz böses fernweh. erinnert mich sehr an unsere besuche auf vielen thailändischen märkten letztes jahr. hach!
What a fascinating trip it sounds like...envious here...except for the cold...I'll skip that.
Breathtaking pictures! Hope you get well soon - maybe the Munich spring can help a little.
[...] pure coincidence, 2 blogwriters that I follow travelled to Spore in [...]
Ah, I didn't know that. Thanks!
Ur pictures are lovely... makes me miss home and all that hawker food..
p.s.. for another dose of singapore hawker food, you could head down to Singapore Day which will be held in London on April 25th this year :)
I'm a Singaporean food blogger and a follower of your blog.
I'm glad you enjoyed Singapore and all the eating. I enjoyed Willin Low's food @ Wild Rockets! Left me a memorable Xmas 2008. =) Come back soon...
Magycmyste: In Singapore, we have a lot of Chinese, Malays and Indians. We even have an area called, Little Indian here. Come visit Singapore! =)
Wonderful photos and links. I'll visit Singapore in spring 2010 so your post was a real inspiration. Thanks!
Oh wow, what incredible photos! I flipped over the yellow striped fish, green tinged mussels, and red fish with blue dots. (What a cool photo gallery plug-in.) I'm sure you were wishing you could get right into the kitchen with all these amazing ingredients. Thanks so much for sharing your adventure! It really makes me want to run hop a plane. How long did you say the flight was?
when you travel one thing you don't want to missed is to try eating their foods. that's what we do also. Just being curious on the taste of their foods.
Your pics are total eye candy!! Thanks for sharing your perspective and leaving me hungry for Singapore!
I enjoyed your blog. I love the way your pictures pop on my monitor.

Isn't it wonderful exploring a new country? Particularly ones like Singapore where there's such a mix of cultures... and great food! I'm an Australian currently in the Philippines with my mum's side of the family, a country with very different food, but many similar cultural influences. What is the must-try Singaporean dish in your opinion?
EDIT Nicky: Ahhh, where should I start? We loved simple Roti Prata with Curry for breakfast, as well as Chicken Murtabak! And - of course - a bowl of Katong Laksa!!
wow, looks like you all really ate a lot during your trip to Singapore! What a pity we din get a chance to meet up, glad you enjoyed yr stay here! :)
What camera were you shooting with? The colours are amazing!
EDIT Nicky: We used a Nikon D70s as well as the Nikon D700 :)
Thanks for sharing those pictures...makes me miss home! I'm definitely going down to the Singapore Day Serene mentioned this month for my fix!
It was quite amusing seeing pictures of the black chicken again. My mum used to boil them in a soup with goji berries and a whole load of other herbs because it's meant to make a good tonic.
Pleased to see you ate well in Singapore :)
May I echo what the others have already said! Absolutely amazing photos! Makes me miss Singapore that much more!!! Glad u enjoyed your trip. A fellow foodie from the forum I am in told me about your blog. Am a Singaporean currently studying in Tuebingen. My friend also said I should write you to look at your blog for insights into German food. And for recipes! :)
You will have to make a trip to Malaysia if you like Singapore; if you have any hesitations, I am sure Eating Asia and I will be able to convince you. ;)
Every picture's remind me so much about home!
I am from Malaysia, just North of Singapore.
Picture #23 showing a lady removing clam shells, it's one seafood that hardly find in Norh America. I dislike it when I was a kid, but I miss it now...
Thanks for sharing, those a excellent pictures, so professional and sharp !
Oh, you have been at the BANANA LEAF! I loved it there, I am totally addicted to Masala Dosa and they served one of the best I ever had!
Best Esther
Wow, awesome photos! Great food also.
I like Thai food:-)
I seconded Rasa Malaysia & Eating Asia :-) Malaysia is just across the Tebrau Straits from S'pore.
From Johor (the Asia Continent ends in a large wetland, Tanjung Piai, known as Southernmost End of Asian Continent) up to Perlis (smallest states in Malaysia), just at the border of Southern Thailand. There are 13 states to venture through; 11 in Peninsular M'sia and 2 in Borneo (Sabah & Sarawak). Food ranges from Asian, Eurasian to Orang Asli (indigenous minority people).
Cheers...
@esther
