I love potatoes. I love them cooked, baked, mashed, fried, actually I can't think of a way I wouldn't devour these yellow darlings. I even ate them raw when I was a child - despite my grandma telling me, that this wasn't particularly healthy. Stubborn? Me? What?!

The only times when I can care less about potatoes is when they taste bland, void of any flavor, more white and sweet than anything. I do like to try new sorts, but more often than not they suck and I remorsefully return to the known, good ones. Favorites of mine would include Bamberger Hörnchen, La Ratte (with just butter and coarse sea salt), Sieglinde (salads), a good Bintje (gnocchi) and the purple Vitelotte (potato chips). What are your favorites and what do you use them for?
Just discovered your blog and spent almost 2 hours surfing your archives. I think I'm hooked! Your pictures are very good, are you doing this for a profession?
Use golden potatoes (Yukon Golds are the best), dice them, and gently saute in olive oil until golden brown. Don't forget to salt and pepper. The more olive oil you use, the tastier they get.
We eat potatoes raw all the time, as long as you don't eat to much of them it's ok. But the green parts should be removed, they are toxic.
i love love love raw potatoes! is your grandma right? are they unhealthy (well, i mean, aside from being straight carbs?) Love your blog!
I´m a potato lover, myself - I could eat them day and night! I don´t have a special type that I love but I love mashed potatoes (with a bit of garlic), potato wedges and potato gratin the most.
I love chips, though am not very fond of potatoes. They have lot of carbohydrates and we may put up some kilos.
In Austria the Kipfler are very good, quite famous in Australia too. Like Bambergers. Quartered with skin an roasted in the oven with curry, paprika, garlic and olive oil, served with oranges and yoghurt, yum.
yukon gold for gnocchi and oven-roasted potatoes. But my #1 favorite way to eat potatoes is simple - fried. French fries I can not resist.
My favorite? I don't think I could pick just one. Mashed with lots of butter, crispy potato skins with cheddar and bacon, Hash browns with eggs over easy, even steamy hot McDonald's fries with those little ketchup packets.
my favourite sin? Crispy BRATKARTOFFELN with SPECK and ONIONS, maybe a little cucumber salad as side dish. And classic potatoes with asparagus and lemon hollandaise. Or potatoe gratin with cheese topping. Baked potatoes and curd cheese with chives.
My, I have to buy some potatoes. N-O-W :)
Have you ever tried marinating potatoes? mmm mm that is really good. Look up some good recipes that add flavor to potatoes over night and you will never go back to regular potatoes again.
I love cooked potatoes with butter, curd and cheese - a simple recipe of my mum, when I was young. And me and my sister enjoyed that.
I just bought some Russian Banana fingerlings for a change; they were delicious from the grill. I make a foil packet, add some washed potatoes, whole cherry tomatoes and sliced red onion. Then I give everything a good dousing of olive oil, garlic salt and black pepper. Grill off of the flame, on medium heat for about 30 minutes. It's unbelievable and quick.
My favorite non-traditional (Italian) potato salad is made from slow-roasted new potatoes quartered and tossed with a vinaigrette of chopped mint, loads of olive oil, a good dose of chopped garlic, kosher salt and pepper. The mint and warm potatoes are wonderful complements to one another.
i love potatoes as well - such a great vegetable! my favorite sort is called Adretta, an East German sort reared in the 1950s. My father used to plant them when he started to work for one of the East German LPGs (Landwirtschaftliche Produktionsgenossenschaft, agricultural co-op). Since then he plants them every year in our garden - and our entire family loves to eat them...
Funny thing i just had potato gratin.
Must be a german thing, i don't know any other nation that eats that much potato.
I love it in any way: cooked, mashed, fried, you name it.
I'm not so sure that the love for potatoes can be claimed a german thing. Only in Ireland I saw someone have mashed potatoes AND french fries AND boiled potatoes with their meal.

I also used to eat raw potatoes when I was a kid! I sprinkled them with salt.
