It worked great on our silverwares. Instead of putting hot water on a bowl, I just boiled them for about 5 mins. It's awesome! That could explain the yellowish look and why the cleaning solution doesn't work. Have you tried a commercial polish? (If you wash with dish soap and water after using silver polish, your silverware is perfectly safe to eat with.) If that doesn't work either, and you like your stuff - it can be re-plated. It works with my jewels. I'm not sure if it works with cutlery, but I guess so. I simply boil my silver jewels with water and a little piece of soap in a pan.
