otherFeeling sick - Post...poned

When a photo says more than a thousand words:

Post...poned

This is what I've been living on the last 48 hours and as you can probably imagine I don't feel like writing about bacon at the moment, which is supposed to have a gala display in the next - almost finished - post. Meanwhile I'm happy to take good advice for somebody who caught a stomach bug - besides grated apples, squished bananas, pretzel sticks and zwieback. *sigh*

Try Burned Toast and Orange Juice. It works for me every time.

Please note, I didn't add the link as a gratuitous plug, I added it so that you don't think I'm (too) insane. ;)

Get better soon!

You might want to stay away from apples right now. They can cause a loose lower GI on the best of days..

LOTS of water!

Unsweetened black tea and pretzel sticks is what I reach for when feeling sick. Drinking enough is even more important than eating. Get well soon!

Feel better soon, dear!

Ginger is fairly advantageous for the stomachs, I learned on a recent trip back home. The folks recommended that I boil, shred, and throw the entire root on a sacrificial fire before eating it, but I found flat gingerale works just as well.

rice with apples and zinnamon - yummi!
and what I discovered recently finding food innovations for my 9-month child - quite tasty corn groats mixed with plum (can be dried) puree.

Sorry you're under the weather. Feel better soon!

October 28th, 2007

poor you!!!! I hope you will feel better soon!

Sorry you're not feeling well. But, Hello Kitty always makes me feel better!

I've had the stomach bug a few times and in Italy they recommend: white rice with just a touch of olive oil. I like Gatorade for when it's really bad - at least you're getting some nutrients! :)

Squished banana reminds me of my childhood, my nana gave it to me, when I was sick. And many mugs of camomile tea. Get well soon :)

ginger ale and pretzels always helped me--but not as much as sleeping as much as possible. hope you're feeling lots better soonest.

October 29th, 2007

Flat ginger ale is good, also a nice plain bowl of rice with some chicken breast added to it.

P.S I agree with the above poster, apples are no good with stomach infections.

Gute Besserung,

Das coffeinhaltige Getränk aus Amerika in kleinen Mengen, kombiniert mit Salzstangen hilft auch.

Hi!
I'm sorry you are not well, but I must tell you, this is my first time here and your site is absolutely wonderful. I am so inspired, ready to make crepes! The design is outstanding--I will defenitely return many times!

ohh. poor thing - get well soon! chewing some (unwaxed) lemon peel should help you get rid of the nausea at least ... as for the rest, it's gotta come out ;-(

WIshing you a speedy recovery! My mom used to cook porridge (rice soup) for me when I was sick. Try cooking 1 cup of rice with 4 cups of water & ginger. Simmer for at least an hour or till the rice grain has gone soft and mushy. Add salt, marmite or have it with some sausages. Hope that helps.

Oh yuck. You poor thing. I wish I was there to help. You've received lots of good advice already, but my mantra is "white foods." Rice, crackers, a little clear chicken broth (okay, that's gold in color), and LOTS of fluids. I also prefer peppermint tea...seems to temporarily relieve tummy-aches. Hang in there my friend.

Boiled potatoes and linden tea! Hope you are feel better soon. Looking forward to your bacon post.

milk toast.

Plain white rice with lemon juice in it. Some salty sticks and a lot to drink dsipatched over the whole day and only in small quantities at a time so that you stomach can adapt. The rest time does for you.

poor your, I'd recommend sage tea, always helps me, when I have a stomach bug

My preferred sick food of choice is white toasted bread with blueberry jam and black tea! Chicken broth with oyster crackers are also good. As are bowls of basmati rice mushed with bananas and cinnamon. I hope you feel better soon!!

My "comeback" meal as soon as I can try it is always Nabeyaki Udon; noodles, incredible broth, a poached egg. It's easy on the stomach and just the thing your body needs on the road to recovery. Best wishes.

Can't give you any better food suggestions - it's exactly what I would do, too. However, just to brighten up your mood, think of all the luscious desserts you'll have once this is over as you didn't use up all of your calorie allowance, I guess..;-)

Rice, rice and rice...
Bon rétablissement

October 31st, 2007

Oh no, I hope you feel better soon!

I'm weird in that 'clear'-tasting things have always settled my stomach. Probably wouldn't work for you, but by that I mean things like miso broth, fresh citrus fruit, etc.

Chicken broth with lots of ginger. Works like a charm.

Feel better!

Sorry that you've not been well, hope you'll soon feel better. Bad tummies are the pits!!
A little natural Bio yogurt can be quite soothing, also white foods as others have said,... mashed potatoes; rice, perhaps flavoured with a little soy sauce is good to have too once you feel a bit better. Tiny amounts at first and plenty of water.

How nice that everyone wants to help! Here is my no-fail cure:

Hot garlic (two cloves, grated)/ginger (one inch grated)/lemon (half, squeezed)/honey (to taste, usually one or two Tbs)/black pepper (a few twists) tea. Drink two or three cups throughout the day and eat the ginger and garlic in the bottom of the mug if you can. It works everytime for me.

Also, I always treat myself to Korean takeout hot and sour soup. I don't know why, but it works wonders with the tea.

Thank you all for your get-well wishes and food tips, they worked wonders :) I'm fully recovered, crave all kinds of foods again and will finish the promised bacon post tonight...
