Did the news we received over the weekend really change the weather or was it coincidence? On our way out the door last Friday it began to rain cats and dogs and didn't stop once during our ride to Vienna. A Salzburg déjà vu? The first morning wasn't really any better, walking along the Naschmarkt with soaking wet shoes isn't the most fun - but we finally got rewarded with lots of Viennese schnitzel and strudel in all possible variations. A little annoyed by the constant rain, we headed back to our cozy hotel and shortly after found ourselves in front of a PC screen checking our emails and could not believe what we were looking at - I wildly gestured Oliver to come over and tell me I'm not starting to see things... we've been selected by TIME.com as one of the 50 Coolest Websites (2006). In the late afternoon the very same day, the weather started to clear up - I kid you not - and for the remainder of our trip and the wonderful wedding of our dear friends Dagi and Craig had invited us to, the weather god meant well!

Congratulations, you guys deserve it! I'll be in Munich in four weeks and look forward to trying out some of the places you recommend. Also, I was wondering whether you're using the regular 18-70mm lens that usually comes with the NikonD70s for your pictures, or are you using a smaller one, like a 12mm? I just got a D70s (your pictures were one of the main reasons) but I'm having problems getting as upclose as I'd like.

Sigh - how I wish my site looked as effortlessly well-designed as yours does, but its just not my forte. I've been trying and trying but it always looks mediocre in comparison. I'll update it one day. ..

Steph, Thanks! To get the close-ups/macro shots, we in fact use a macro lense (100mm). On trips we tend to switch between a 17-55mm and 85mm lens, depending on the situation and available light. The standard 18-70mm (kit) is a fine lens, but also has its limitations, especially on the wide end (17mm) and in terms of lens speed.
