We just kicked off the 2010 Christmas baking season with this recipe, which has now become one of our own holiday traditions. Delicious, as always! However, we still hope to convince you someday of the merits of the sweet, noble California raisin. Unlike American beer, it is thought by many to be better than its German cousin. But hey, with or without raisins, this recipe makes the perfect treat for a cold, early December day.

I made my first Stollen just a couple of weeks ago and used the Dr. Oetker recipe. I'll post it on my blog in the next few days, but I'm so glad you've posted a recipe you like after trying a few because Dr. Oetker's doesn't use yeast which ends up making it fairly dense, and having just received a Stollen from a dear friend in Germany (Meeta at What's for Lunch, Honey?) I now know that the consistency was wrong, though the taste was correct, and I suspect this is due to the lack of yeast in it. I will definitely be trying this recipe soon.

Danke!!!
