Hi Christina, The type of salad we used is mostly referred to as corn salad (although it has nothing to do with corn), but I also came across terms such as field salad, field lettuce, lamb's lettuce and mâche.
The narrow, dark green leaves of this plant are tender and have a tangy, nut like flavor. In addition to being used as a salad green, corn salad can also be steamed and served as a vegetable.
Also, it doesn't keep well and should be used within a day or two of purchase.

Hi,
I have been searching the internet for this salad green that i had the last time i was in Vienna and Graz in November. It was the best salad i have ever had. It was this vogerlsalat. I have been searching for seeds to grow some here because i have no idea where to find it. Do you by any chance know what the english name for this green is, and how one can find it? I am in vancouver BC. Also a little tip, the part that makes it super tasty for me is the drizzling of pumpkinseed oil over it. It is a very great source of vitamin a and b i think....lots of healthy properties to it as well as to the greens themselves. Anyhow this is the traditional Austrian way of having it, the pumpkinseed oil is key.

oh, vogerlsalat really reminds me of home... my mum used to make a very simple, yet delicious version just with (lean) fried bacon bits. what a delight! we do get lamb's lettuce here in the UK, but it's not very wide-spread and quite pricey, but there you go - who said good food came cheap???

Awesome recipe! I added some grilled chicken to add extra protein, but your recipe was grand. I really liked your simple viniagrette dressing recipe as well...I had never gotten it to come out quite right before.
